Graphical User Interface (GUI)
This is the primary LUCAS window in which the following may be selected:
- GRASS mapset
- Scenario
- Beginning map year
- Number of replicates to be run
- Number of timesteps per replicate
- Habitat of which species should be analyzed
- Type of model: pixel or patch-based
- Number of maps to be saved
This window shows progress being made on simulation. The following
information is displayed:
- Name of the watershed
- Name of the current scenario
- Current replicate number
- Base map year
- Current map year
This window provided by GRASS displays:
- Map of the original land cover
- Map of land cover after a transition
- Legend describing colors used in maps
- Percent of total calculation completed
This window allows the user to select any of the following statistics:
- Proportion of landscape in each cover type
- Area (ha) of landscape in each cover type
- Edge:area ratio for each cover type
- Amount of edge (km) for each pair of cover types
- Total edge (km) in the whole landscape
- Number of patches
- Mean patch size
- Standard deviation of patch size
- Size of largest patch
- Cumulative frequency distribution of number of patches by size
- Mean patch shape (see r.le program, normalized shape index)
This window is a graphical representation of the above mentioned
statistics.
Description of Simulation:
One replicate of 20 timesteps using the pixel-based historical
transitions of 1975-1986, applied to a starting land cover map for 1991,
is depicted above in the simulation of David Wear's economic model.
The actual run-time of LUCAS was approximately 30 minutes, which
has been compressed into a matter of seconds.
