CS 311 — Handout 1 — Spring 2008
Basic Course Information
- Course homepage: http://www.cs.utk.edu/~mclennan/Classes/311/
- Information about the course content, schedule, grading, etc. can be found on the CS311 homepage. Be sure to read it, since it will tell you what will be expected of you.
- There will be a short (approximately 15 min.) quiz at the
beginning or end of class each Wednesday. This is to help you keep up
with the material. If you are satisfied with your quiz average,
you will not have to take the final exam.
- As will be explained in class, you should do as many of the
problems in the book as you are able; this is the only way to hone your
skills. Note that the answers to the odd-numbered exercises are
in the back of the book, so you can check your work. You can also
hand in exercises that you would like us to check. Also, most of
the quiz and exam questions will be taken from the book exercises or be
similar to them.
- I will give you a short diagnostic quiz to test your
familiarity with the material from Mat 300 and your readiness to take
CS 311. If you do not do well on it, you should discuss with me
the advisability of your taking CS 311 at this time.
