Description: The Melton Lake Greenway, a relatively flat greenway/bike path, is an eight foot wide asphalt trail that parallels Melton Hill Lake. The first 1.2 miles of the 3.4 mile project opened in December of 1997. Phase II (1.1 miles) was completed in June of 2001. Phase III (1.1 miles) was completed in August of 2001. It is shared by bikers, joggers, walkers, bladers, and Nordic skiers. It was constructed with funds from the City of Oak Ridge and state of Tennessee and is one of many projects of Greenways Oak Ridge. An additional 0.6 miles of "unimproved" trail connects the south end of Phase III with the Haw Ridge Park trails at the east end of Old Edgemoor Rd. (If the lake level is higher than 794' then parts of this section are submerged.)

In the plans is phase IV, continuing the south end of the Greenway under the bridge 0.6 miles to Old Edgemoor Road and Haw Ridge Park. This would provide an additional 2.2 miles of paved trail to the west end of Haw Ridge Park (kiosk parking area). This would connect the greenway with the dirt hiking/biking/running trails (28+ miles) of Haw Ridge Park. In 2005, the City received a federal grant of $650,000 to extend Melton Lake Greenway to Haw Ridge Park. In 2008, construction will begin in the fall extending the greenway to the kiosk at the west end, see map.
