I'm a Senior Editor of IEEE Transactions on Robotics.

I was a selected member of the Defense Science Study Group, a group of 14 professors, for 2004-2005. This program is run for DARPA by IDA, to educate professors on national security issues. As part of this program, we focused on defense policy, related research and development, and the systems, missions, and operations of the armed forces. I co-edited (with Enrico Pagello and Tamio Arai) a special issue of IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation on the topic of Multi-Robot Systems, to be published in 2002.

I was the program vice chair for the Americas for the 2002 IEEE International Conference in Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2002), held in Washington, D.C. May 11-15, 2002.
I taught a seminar/short course on behavior-based and collective robotics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain, hosted by the Complex and Adaptive Systems Laboratory (ScALAB), February 5-9, 2001.
I organized the 5th International Symposium on Distributed Autonomous Robotic Systems (DARS 2000), held in Knoxville, TN in October 2000.
I guest co-edited (with Tucker Balch) a special issue of Autonomous Robots on the topic of Heterogeneous Multi-Robot Systems, 8(3), 2000.
I taught a short-course on Collective and Cooperative Robotics at the University of Buenos Aires' ECI '99 (Escuela de Ciencias Informaticas) in July, 1999.
I organized two special sessions on Cooperating Robots, held at the SPIE Sensor Fusion and Decentralized Control in Robotic Systems II Conference, which was part of SPIE's International Symposium on Intelligent Systems and Advanced Manufacturing, in September 1999.
