CS530 - Course Grading and Policies

Homework
Students will be assigned approximately eight problem sets during the semester. Frequently, at the beginning of class on the due date of a problem set, a student will be randonly chosen for each problem to present the solution in class and answer any question related to it. Students that are absent when called upon to present homework assignment will receive 10 points deducted from their grade on that set.

Project

Absences
Class/Homework - if you miss a class, you are still responsible for the material covered in the lecture and any assignment that is made. Your absence does not change the due date of an assignment. (See above for potential penalty for absences on due dates for homework.)

Exams - no makeup examinations will be given except in extreme circumstances.

Due Date Policy
Homework - all homework assignments are due at the beginning of class on the specified due date.

Project - the project report will be due at the beginning of class on the specified due date.

NO LATE HOMEWORK OR PROJECT ASSIGMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Assistance Policy
You should research and study the material yourself before seeking help from any one! After reasonable individual effort, assistance should be sought from other students in the course, a TA or the instructor. If you do not understand the material, please seek help; do not let material not mastered collect.

You may discuss homework and other assignments with other students in the class; however, you MUST perform all the actual work (programming, mathematics, analyses, reports, etc.) yourself. (A good rule of thumb is that if, while you are programming, analyzing or writing up your work, you can see work produced by someone else, you are on very questionable ground.) Cheating will not be tolerated! The result of cheating will be a zero for the assignment, written notification given to the student, Department Head, and Dean of Students, and may well result in a final grade of F for the entire course, which would result in dismissal from the graduate program.

Special Needs
If a student has any condition, such as a physical or mental disability, that will make it difficult to carry out any assignment or that will require extra time on examinations, please notify the instructor in the first two weeks of the course. Any student with permit from the Office of Disability Services will be provided reasonable accommodation.

IMPORTANT!!
