The required textbook for this class is Modern Information Retrieval by R. Baeza-Yates and B. Ribeiro-Neto (Addison-Wesley, 1999). The textbook and Understanding Search Engines: Mathematical Modeling and Text Retrieval by M.W. Berry and M. Browne (SIAM, 1999) are both on reserve checkout in Hodges Library. Possible online textbook suppliers are: Bookpool and Efollet. |
Course Logistics - Sects. 30239 (494), 30551 (594)When and Where:The class meets in Claxton 206 (larger room) from 9:40am to 10:555am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students should be prepared to arrive early each lecture day. Announcements will not be repeated for students arriving late.
Instructor:Michael W. Berry will be teaching this course. Previous instances of this course include: CS 494/594 - Information Processing & Management taught Fall Semester 2000 and CS 460 - Information Storage and Retrieval taught Spring Semester 1999. The Instructor's office hours have been tentatively set to be 9:30-10:30am on Wednesday mornings (these are subject to change). Teaching Assistant:Lana Mironova will be the teaching assistant for CS594/494 this semester. Her office hours will be held in Claxton 121 from 10:00am to noon on Mondays.
