4. A Client-Server Interface

The LSI++ Application Programming Interface allows any number of applications and user interfaces to be constructed with a minimal knowledge of the internal details of the LSI system. Here, a World-Wide Web (WWW) interface for LSI, based on LSI++, is described. A World-Wide Web interface was selected as the first application of LSI++ because interfaces created for the World-Wide Web are portable and simple to create and maintain, eliminating much of the design, implementation, and maintenance time required for a stand-alone GUI.
