Thesis submission procedure for UT/CS grad students
- Get the deadline dates from Graduate Student Services
located at P-105 Andy Holt Tower or visit the link off the
graduate school website.
- Write your thesis while paying close attention to style
and format considerations.
- As you near completion, schedule an appointment with
the Dissertation/Thesis Advisor
to make sure your thesis is in compliance with the
graduate school guidelines.
- Before you defend, decide how many final 100% cotton copies
you will eventually need --typically, two for the graduate school,
one for the department, one for your advisor, and one or more for
yourself. You need to bring that many 100% cotton "approval" sheets
to your thesis examination for the committee members to sign. Be sure to check
with the thesis web page at the graduate school for the latest
approval sheet format.
- Once you have passed the exam/defense and your thesis is approved by
your faculty advisor and committee, take a copy (with your corrections)
to the thesis/dissertation advisor. The advisor will tell you what
kind of changes you need to make. You can do this electronically.
- Once approved, you are ready to make 100% cotton
paper copies.
- Bring two copies along with all the approval sheets to
the thesis advisor at the graduate school for the official stamp
of approval.
- Bring the additional 100% cotton copies, along with the
stamped approval sheets to your advisor to conclude the process.
- NOTE: The graduate school does accept final electronic
copies of your thesis. However, it does require a copy of a
different electronic approval sheet
and a copy of the source files used to created the final PDF.
One clarification: The electronic approval sheet is the first page of the
thesis PDF. It is not counted in the page count and does not have a page
number, but it is the first page when you open the PDF. And then the
signed approval sheet is submitted. For Masters students who submit
electronically, the approval sheet is the only hard copy sheet of paper
they submit.
