CS 460/594 Project Description

The goal of this project is to design and implement a searchable index for an existing (or created) on-line collection. Each student group (whose membership must be approved by the instructor) will be responsible for both collection development and management throughout the semester. Guidelines for index creation will be posted on this page along with deadlines for each phase of the project.

Milestones

Task No. Description Due Date
1 Group approval 1/28
2 Collection approval 2/11
3 Doc. File on-line 3/4
4 First IFS Prototype 4/8
5 Project Evaluation 4/27

Document Collection

The document collection indexed by each group should be converted to HTML before parsing. The search engine produced by each group must be made accessible to the entire class for testing.

Evaluation Form

The on-line evaluation form should be used by each student to evaluated the assigned search engine. Each student in group k will evaluate the search engine built by the students in group (k mod 10)+1. Hence, Group 10 will evaluate Group 1, Group 1 will evaluate Group 2, Group 2 will evaluate Group 3, etc. Evaluation forms must be submitted (electronically) by 7:00pm on Monday, April 26.
