Greg Henry was born on March 29, 1966 in San Francisco, California. He was the only child of William Lee Henry and Sheila Edith Henry. He remained in the Bay Area, living with his mom, until eighth grade. With the encouragement of his family, he pursued a career in theater through the study of acting, tap, ballet, singing, mime, and set design. He also enjoyed a love of writing and started his first novel in fifth grade. It was also in fifth grade that he discovered his interest in mathematics. In eighth grade, he relocated to Phoenix, Arizona for a duration of two years. He then moved to San Diego where he finished high school and attended the University of California at San Diego, John Muir college. Greg attended UCSD from 1984 to 1988 where he received a B.A. in Mathematics/Computer Science Cum Laude with a minor in Literature and special interests in Anthropology and Theater. It was at his first class at UCSD, Badminton, on Thursday September 27, 1984, where he met his lovely wife, Shannon. Greg proposed to his wife Shannon at Disneyland, at the beginning of the Space Mountain ride on Friday, April 5, 1985. He had to wait for the duration of the ride for an answer. They were married on Saturday, June 21, 1986. On August 19, 1986, Greg started consistently studying Aikido at the Dojo of the Four Winds in Leucadia. Without having the benefit of visiting Ithaca, Greg and Shannon moved to Ithaca in July 1988, where Greg pursued a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at the Center for Applied Mathematics at Cornell. He continued his Aikido studies at Seidokan Aikido of New York. His daughter Elizabeth Rose was born Saturday, June 10, 1989 at approximately 6:20PM at Thomkins County Community Hospital. After a long night, his daughter Shannon Rose, Junior, ("Rosey") was born on Friday, January 31, 1992, at 9:10 AM at the same hospital. Greg and his family (including the dog Fawn) left Ithaca on June 30, 1993. Greg followed up on his graduate work by taking a position in the Intel Supercomputing Division in Portland, Oregon.
