Congratulations to Norbert Fogarasi of Canada,
the 1998 World Internet Progressive Chess Champion!
Alas, many of the players (which means also the TD) lost interest and there were not
many completed games in the finals. The final crosstable was not
constructed until 1 year after the tournament drifted into incompletion
(last results were in 2000, final crosstable July, 2001).
Therefore, the scoring in the final crosstable deserves some explanation. The sequence
of events leading to the final results was as follows:
- Cassano was forfeited on time (no completed games). All opponents
were marked with 1's for their games with Cassano.
- Next, Blazsik was forfeited on time (no completed games). All
opponents except Cassano were marked with 1's for their games with him.
- Russell Linnemann resigned all his games (completed games with Sicker
only, others were partial).
- Finally, there were 4 unfinished games between Hyatt/Fogarasi and Hyatt/Pfeiffer
marked as draws (since this was the policy adopted in the preliminary round
in the Hummel/Shapiro game).
I will be compiling a list of completed games as soon as I am able.
Crosstable design derived from Alfred Pfeiffer's pages. Crosstables current
as of July 25, 2001.
