Like I said on the page before, AD&D was the first game I ever played.  If you know anything about gaming, you're probably familiar with AD&D, but I'll tell a bit about it anyway.  For the most part, it's a typical fantasy game.  It's set in Medieval-like times.  Magic is fairly common and most of the typical fantasy races and monsters are around.  There are elves, dwarves, halflings, orcs, ogres, dragons, etc.  The most common character types are wizards, fighters, clerics (priests), rangers, and thieves.  I won't get into game mechanics because you probably either already know or don't really care.

My first character was a half-elven cleric named Lane.  His chosen deity was the god of fire.  Starting out, the other members of the party consisted of  a ranger, a wizard, and a paladin, all human.  Lane and the paladin didn't get along very well since the paladin was of the lawful good alignment and Lane was chaotic good and often disregarded any laws he didn't agree with.  Lane also enjoyed indulging in several pleasures that the paladin didn't really approve of, and Lane could be a bit obnoxious, especially to people he didn't like.  We were later joined by a fighter character and the paladin was replaced by a Wemic ranger (like a Centaur but a lion's body instead of a horse).

Lane's Tavern Tales

...Ok, so there we were, lost in this huge cave.  Somehow, the stupid wizard managed to get himself lost, so the rest of us were looking for him.  It was me, the Wemic, and big fighter guy.  I forget his name.  Anyway, we wander into this big room where it's almost pitch black.  We had a couple of torches, but that was it.  We're making our way to the other side of the room, looking for another way out, and I hear this whoosh right in front of me and feel a gust of wind blow across my face.  So I jump back and draw my sword.  The fighter catches on and does the same.  A second later we hear a low growl and the the Wemic gets hit by something.  Not too bad, but enough to scare the hell out of him.  Of course we can barely see each other, and we have no idea what the hell we're being attacked by.  The Wemic totally freaks out and starts jumping up and down and running around the room.  That leaves me and the fighter to take out this thing, practically blind.  We both swing at it and miss several times, whenever it sounded close or we could see the glint of the torch light in its eyes.  I finally hit it after a few swings and took it down.  When we finally got a closer examination of it, we figured out that it was a Shadow.  Nasty little bastards that are occasionally found in dark caves.  They're solid black and reflect almost no light, so in the dark they're damn near invisible.  Anyway, we continued on looking for our wizard friend and finally find him lying unconscious on a table with a Wight leaning over him performing some kind of weird ritual (what for I don't know).  We later found out how he got there.  The idiot found the thing in the same room over the same altar doing a similar ritual, and he decides to play warrior for a minute, runs at the thing, and whacks it in the head with that damned stick he carries.  Anyway, the thing just looks at him like he's stupid, which he was, and then proceeds to beat the crap out of him and lie him out on this alter to do who knows what.  We learned all this after saving his sorry butt.  Ok, so unlike the wizard, the rest of us aren't dumb enough to charge in after it because we all knew that Wights generally can't be harmed by normal weapons.  I guess our wise wizard friend forgot this in his impulsiveness.  Luckily, the thing was so intent on the ritual it was attempting to do that it didn't notice us.  We saw a small room off in the corner with several chests and boxes in it.  We quietly snuck over to the room hoping to find something we could use against the Wight.  Luckily we did.  Inside the chests we found a good bit of treasure and several magical weapons that we were able to use to slay the Wight.  Between myself and the fighter, we took the thing down without much trouble and made our way out of the cave with the Wights treasures, our wounded companion, and a frightened Wemic.  Ha, and if you think that's a good story, wait 'til I tell you about the time I had to escape from a band of orcs that waylaid me on the road to...umm...excuse me for a minute.  I'll tell you this one later.
Hello beautiful.  I haven't seen you in here before.  Let me get you a drink...
