This was the last game of the regular season. Both Maryville and West
were 6-0 in SMAC league play. The game was behind Bearden Elementary
school.
- A line out. West scored first, off one of our line outs...
- Tony kicks.
- Ryan about to receive some contact.
- Jesse pulls the ball out of the scrum and tosses to Tony.
The West players were (in my opinion) a little overly agressive
playing the person on our scrums. Jesse had to get it out quickly.
- B.J. Rumbles forward.
- Sparky tries the right side.
Soon after this play, Charlie scored on one of those multiple-bodies-everywhere
plays.
- Another post-scrum toss.
- A few minutes later, a well-timed spin move by Jeff left him open and
able to outrun West. Jeff has been giving me grief that I didn't
get a picture of the spin move itself, but unfortunately, I missed
even seeing the spin move, because I was getting the camera in focus....
- Jeff was alone enough that he was able to set the ball in the middle
of the goal-posts. Important, because the half ended 12-5, Maryville.
- Second-half action -- Tony appears to be deciding what to do with the
ball in some post-scrum action.
- Jeff has likely passed to Adam as he's going down. Soon after this,
I believe, West scored and got the extra points: a 12-12 tie.
- A line out for West.
- An action shot -- Maryville got a scrum out of this play, because the
guy on the ground passed it forward and out of bounds.
- Another Jesse-to-Tony pass post-scrum pass. In case you're wondering,
these are easy to photograph, becuase you know they are coming.
- A major penalty on West gives us a kick from the 20 in the
middle of the field. Tony goes for the field goal, and it's 15-12,
Maryville.
- This was nearly a coast-to-coast score. Adam got the ball with some
daylight, and while two West players converged on him, he flipped
it to Jeff, who, with the help of about a 20-yard stiff-arm,
was able to get to the corner of the try-zone. 20-12, Maryville.
Again, Jeff was
disappointed in me that I didn't get his stiff-arm. Sorry...
- The undefeated SMAC regular season champs, looking mostly weary following
a hard-fought victory!
