Basic Search

To enter a query into Resume Search, just type in a few descriptive words separated by space(s) and hit the 'enter' key (or click on the Resume Search button) for your list of relevant results.

ResumeSearch only searches for pages that exactly match your search terms, so you can try using different versions of your search terms. For example, if a search for "System" didn't turn up what you were looking for, try "Systems" instead.

After you type in your query terms and hit the return key or click on the search button, Resume Search will give you a list of relevant results. Each one is a link to a resume of the student who has enrolled in UTK computer science department's graduate or undergraduate program or who has graduated from UTK computer science department. The default is each result must contain at least one of the query terms.When you click on any link ,the keyword that was found in that resume will be highlighted for your convenience. 10 links will be shown per page.

It will also show the required time to do the search (in sec) and the keywords that were actually found .To learn more about the results see How to Interpret Results

How can I narrow my search results

To narrow your search results use the 'AND' button ,that way you will be display ed only the resumes that have all the words you have typed in. If possible add more words to your query then click on 'AND' button ,that will make it narrower.

Do I need to type the whole word?

To provide the most accurate results, Resume Search does not use "stemming" or support the "wildcard" searches. In other words, Resume Search searches for exactly the words that you enter in the search box. Searching for "compute" or "comput*" will not yield "computer" or "computing" If in doubt, try both forms: "engineer" and "engineering," for instance.

Do capital letters matter?

Resume Search searches are not case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches for "windowsNT" and "Windowsnt" will all return the same results.

Advanced Search Options

Using 'And' or 'Or'

There are radio buttons for you to choose if you want the resumes that contain all the words that you have entered(And) or the resumes that contain at least one word that you have entered(Or). The default is the 'Or' option. Do not type 'and' or 'or' in your query string to express what you want,because it will be removed from the query as 'too common' word. Do not use + sign or the word 'plus' to say that you want 'and', just use the radio button.

Employers usually look for some required skills in the resume.That's why Resume Search has a list of check boxes for a number of most required programming skills.You can check one or more to add those to your query, the term will be autimatically added to the text box. You can use the check boxes alone (without typing any thing in the query box) to search . The engine will always search for the term(s) that are displayed in the text box , that means if you check one box and then delete the term from the text box with keyboard(not by de-checking),the engine will not search for it.

You can choose if you want the resumes of graduate students or undergraduate students by clicking the radio button for it. The default is to retrieve any resume. This certainly helps with narrowing our search.
